Health data is a special category under Article 9 GDPR and requires reinforced safeguards. In VOCAP, to transcribe and analyse each recording, the audio goes through OpenAI and the text through Anthropic, two US providers; the audio is deleted from our servers when done and your account keeps the transcript and its analysis. Before using it with real consultations, check your institution's policy: the prudent approach is to have the patient's informed consent and to avoid saying names or identifying details while recording. Frequently asked questions
Can I use it with real patient data?
That depends on your institution's policy. Keep in mind that the audio goes through OpenAI and the text through Anthropic (US) to transcribe and analyse it, and that your account keeps the transcript. The prudent approach is informed consent from the patient to record and, if your institution requires it, not saying names, IDs or record numbers while recording. The audio is deleted from our servers when done.
Does it recognize medical terminology?
It handles common clinical vocabulary well. With highly specialised terms, uncommon abbreviations or drug names, errors can appear, so always review those passages before using them.
Does it replace desktop medical dictation?
For live dictation with voice commands, desktop dictation tools are more complete. VOCAP fits better when: a) you do not want to pay a subscription or install anything; b) you need to transcribe recorded audio (sessions, interviews, training), not just dictate; c) you work from mobile or multiple devices.
How much does it cost for a physician?
No subscription. Packs from €1.99 (1h) to €29.99 (30h). The length of each recording is deducted: a 5-minute dictation uses 5 minutes of balance, so 1 hour covers about 12 dictations of that size.
Does it integrate with my electronic health record?
There is no direct integration. You copy the text in one click or download it as Word or .txt and paste it into your EHR.
Is it legal to record a patient for transcription?
Recording a consultation requires the patient's informed consent and following your institution's policy. Legality comes from consent, not from the tool. What VOCAP does is delete the audio from its servers when done and keep the transcript and its analysis in your account.
