What this converter is for

When editing video or working with subtitles you often need to convert between time formats. HH:MM:SS.ms is the human format (used by SRT, VTT, Premiere). Total seconds is what APIs and most audio processing libraries use. Frames depend on the project FPS: at 24 fps a second is 24 frames, at 25 fps it is 25, and so on. This converter lets you jump between the four formats without opening a spreadsheet. Everything runs in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Which FPS should I use?

24 fps is the cinema standard. 25 fps is the European TV standard (PAL). 29.97 / 30 fps is the US and Japan TV standard (NTSC). 60 fps is used in games, sports and high-speed video. If you do not know the FPS, check the file properties or ask the editor.

Why does the 29.97 vs 30 fps difference matter?

Because of "drop frame": NTSC runs at 29.97 real fps even though it is counted as 30. In short clips (< 1 min) the difference is invisible; in a 1-hour piece there is a 3.6-second offset. For professional subtitles or dubbing work, use the exact project FPS, not a rounded 30.

Do SRT and VTT use different formats?

Almost identical: both use HH:MM:SS,ms (SRT with a comma) or HH:MM:SS.ms (VTT with a dot). The converter accepts both and normalises to dot. For bulk conversions across whole files, use the SRT/VTT/TXT converter.

How many milliseconds is 1 frame?

Depends on the FPS. At 24 fps: 41.67 ms. At 25 fps: 40 ms. At 30 fps: 33.33 ms. At 60 fps: 16.67 ms. This converter computes it automatically when you input the value in frames.

Does it upload anything to a server?

No. Everything is computed in your browser with JavaScript. No data is sent, no logs, no signup.
